BERNARDSVILLE – Michael Leanza caught a touchdown pass and ran for another and the Bernards High School football team’s defense turned in its second shutout of the season Friday night and the third-seeded Mountaineers beat No. 6 Delaware Valley for the second time this year, 24-0 in the South Group II Tournament at Olcott Field.

Bernards advances to the sectional semifinals for the second straight season and third time in the past four years. The Mountaineers will face the winner of Saturday’s game between second-seeded Cedar Creek and No. 7 Point Pleasant Boro in next weekend’s semis.
Bernards (8-1) got started with a 23-yard Steven Lopez field goal on its first drive of the game. Quarterback Teddy Gouldin hit Leanza with a 15-yard scoring pass, before Joey Billotti notched a 72-yard punt return for a touchdown with 5:55 left in the first half.
The Mountaineers capped it on a 12-yard scoring run by Leanza with 6:39 left in the third quarter.
Bernards beat Del Val 32-7 on Oct. 11 in a regular season game. The Terriers finish the season 6-3.
