British heavyweight rivals Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte do not agree on much – but they both believe that lineal champion Tyson Fury has bitten off more than he can chew in challenging Deontay Wilder for the WBC world title.
The Showtime/BT Sport Pay-Per-View bout takes place on December 1 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Chisora and Whyte will collide for a second time on December 22, at The O2 in London.
Fury had been out of the ring from November 2015 until June of this year – after dealing with mental health issues and his admitted abuse of alcohol and drugs.
He shocked the entire boxing world in that November bout, when he traveled to Germany and defeated the king of the division, Wladimir Klitschko, who had gone unbeaten for over a decade.
Chisora believes Fury is taking the Wilder fight too soon. Wilder is only the third bout of Fury’s comeback.
“I’m always going to be rooting for the Union Jack but I believe this fight has come too soon and Fury has taken the fight too early. He has got his own demons that he has to fight first. He is saying to the people that he’s not fighting those demons anymore and I find that hard to believe,” Chisora told Daily Mail.
“If Tyson boxes how he did against Klitschko he might survive the whole twelve rounds. But when he gets hit by that guy, who hits like a mule, it’s goodnight.”
Whyte expects a similar outcome, with Fury getting knocked out.
“Wilder’s gonna knock Tyson Fury out. I always support my own, but you have to be realistic sometimes. I would like to see him beat Wilder because if he beats Wilder, that’s a massive fight for me. I just believe he’s not mentally and physically where he needs to be for these kind of fights,” Whyte stated on the Jim White Show.
“Don’t get me wrong, Wilder’s not the best fighter, but I just think at the minute when you look at activity and confidence, Tyson Fury’s gonna get knocked out. But you never know, he’s been to Germany before and proved all the doubters wrong. Deontay Wilder’s got no chin so he might prove me wrong. I would love him to prove me wrong, but I just can’t see it happening to be honest.”
