Blueblood entire Regal Stage looks to have inherited at least some of the ability of his big brother Lankan Rupee if his winning debut at Gosford on Tuesday is any indication.
A $1.8 million yearling purchase from the 2016 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, the four-year-old has long been touted as an exciting prospect by trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
The son of Redoute’s Choice settled outside the leader in the six horse field before sprinting clear when asked for an effort by Tim Clarke, extending nicely before being eased down to win by almost two lengths.
Lankan Rupee won his first two races before failing in the Blue Sapphire Stakes and the Coolmore Stud Stakes during the spring.
The Mick Price-trained speedster returned as a gelding to win five Group 1 races and take the crown as Australian Racehorse of the Year in 2014.
