DEFENSE

Nate Caldwell, Cranford, Jr., SS

Coming off a loss to North Hunterdon, Cranford was going to need big performances in all areas Saturday in its effort to upend powerhouse Summit and secure a spot in the North, Group 4 playoffs. Caldwell did his part and a bit more defensively with eight tackles and two sacks to bolster that unit and help the Cougars to a 35-20 victory over the reigning North 2, Group 3 champion. Cranford earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming North 1, Group 4 playoffs. “He did everything we asked this week and has all year,” said Cranford coach Erik Rosenmeir. “We gave him multiple man coverages and run fit assignments and he was right every time.”
