Kell Brook in Training For Possible Year-End Return, Says Ingle

Former WBO welterweight champion Kell Brook is back in the hunt for a ring return, according to trainer Dominic Ingle.

Brook has been out of the ring since struggling in a decision win over Michael Zerafa in December 2018. It was Brook’s second fight at junior middleweight, after stepping up in weight in the aftermath of his stoppage loss to Errol Spence at welterweight.

For this particular bout with Zerafa, Brook was trained by John Fewkes after parting ways with Ingle, who was his longtime trainer.

A few months ago, it was deemed by certain outlets that Brook was on the verge of retirement.

But the boxer came out and denied that rumor.

And it now appears that he plans to fight again.

According to Ingle, the 33-year-old Brook is back at this side and currently training for a potential return in December.

“Kell’s back training, he’s been in for a couple of weeks,” Ingle told IFL TV. “He’s been in on and off for the last couple of months, just touching his toes in the water.

“Maybe he’ll be boxing in December, we’ll find out. He’s had a good four weeks full training back and he’s looking all right.”

In a recent interview, Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn made a suggestion that his boxer could return on the undercard to the Andy Ruiz-Anthony Joshua rematch in Saudi Arabia, which takes place on December 7.

Ingle has no issues with the date falling in early December, and said it would work with their training schedule.

“If that’s the case then it’s a good time for him,” Ingle said. “It’ll be a good one to come back on, We’ll work to that date if that is what it is.”
