Jan Daguil played the hero’s role in the closing stretch of the fourth set as College of St. Benilde survived an upset scare from Jose Rizal University, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, Tuesday to secure at least a playoff for a Final Four berth in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Blazers stretched their winning romp to six for a 6-1 win-loss record behind Daguil’s clutch hits.
Daguil broke a 21-21 deadlock with a crosscourt kill before finding an open spot at the middle for a soft hit. The Lady Bombers got a free point off CSB’s last of 37 errors before Daguil answered with another crosscourt spike.
Marites Pablo finished off JRU, who went up 21-19 in the fourth set, with a down the line kill.

The Lady Blazers can formally join defending champion Arellano U (7-0) in the Final Four with another win against San Sebastian College on Friday.
JRU, which started out firing on all cylinders following a straight sets win over SSC-R last week, dropped to 4-4 card and are now in the brink of missing the cut in the semis race.

Meanwhile, the Blazers also assured themselves of at least a semis berth playoff in the men’s division after defusing the Heavy Bombers, 25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19.
CSB improved to 6-1 slate tied with Arellano University at second to third spot behind unbeaten reigning champion Perpetual (6-0).
Ruvince Abrot played for only three sets but still managed to lead the Blazers with 14 points. Ronniey Adviento had 12 markers, Francis Basilan got 11 while Owen Bacani and Joshua De Sequera posted 10 markers each.
