Heading into training camp with the New York Jets, rookie cornerback Parry Nickerson looks to make a name for himself in his first season in the pros.
The New York Jets decided to again address the issues they were having in the secondary by selecting Parry Nickerson from Tulane University. He was a very highly ranked player coming out of college and the Jets saw plenty of potential in Nickerson. He will look to make a name for himself right off the bat.
The Jets added more depth to the secondary to help out Morris Claiborne and Trumaine Johnson who will be the leaders on that aspect team. He has plenty of upside to his game that many Jets fans should be excited about. He brings a tough mindset and strict demeanor to the table in that he’s all about football and trying to be the best cornerback he can be.
Here’s a look at Nickerson’s complete profile as he heads into his first training camp for the Jets.
2017 SEASON REVIEW
From his sophomore through senior year, he was first team all conference USA defensive player. Each year his numbers increased in deflecting balls and interceptions.
2018 SEASON OUTLOOK
Nickerson provides depth in the cornerback position, and will look to make an impact when his number is called. He will provide plenty of help in covering the slot receiver and sometimes in covering the opponent’s top receiving option.
Having Claiborne and Johnson as veteran leaders, Nickerson will be able to learn a lot from them. Through the right coaching and training, Nickerson can develop into a quality backup. If he plays the way like he did in college, he should be able to earn reps when starters are rotating out to rest.
TRAINING CAMP PREDICTION
Nickerson is in position to be the Jets No. 3 cornerback on the depth chart. He is smart and should be able to adapt to the pro level in due time. Expect to see him make the team once training camp is in the books.
